GBES Weekly Family Forecast (March 21-25, 2022)

Welcome Back Families,

I hope everyone had a great March Break and an opportunity to enjoy some extra time with your children.

The school enjoyed Spirit Days prior to the March Break. A note of appreciation to our SAC Chair Gale Downey for making popcorn for our students on Friday before March Break! It was a delicious treat for students.

Students, staff, and visitors to school will continue to wear masks. Premier Tim Houston and Dr. Robert Strang announced on Friday that, out of an abundance of caution, masks will be mandatory in public schools, and on school buses, for a few more weeks starting on March 21, 2022.

HRCE Central Office/building staff and visitors must also continue to wear a mask during this time.

What will this week look like?

In public schools, staff and students will follow the updated guidance in the Back to School Plan, including the following:

• Masking for staff, students and visitors remains in place for a few more weeks during school hours and on school buses

• Visitors and spectators will need to wear masks in schools during school instructional hours for a few more weeks

• Staff and students are asked to follow core public health measures such as getting vaccinated if eligible, staying home if feeling unwell, following the COVID-19 Daily Checklist, washing and sanitizing hands frequently

There will be painting done at school in stairwells and classrooms this week. If you have any questions or concerns, please send me an email or phone the office.

There are no classes on Wednesday because it is an Assessment & Evaluation Day.

We are planning a school wide field trip (P-6) in May to see the musical production of "The Lion King" at Prince Andrew High School on Thursday, May 12th! The school will cover the costs for this field trip for students/volunteers. The performance takes place from 10am to 11am. Our plan is to leave the school by 9:30 to arrive in time for the start of the performance. After the performance, we may take students to Shubie Park for a Picnic Lunch and a “nature walk” before returning to school.

We need Volunteers! Volunteers are required to have a current (within three years) Criminal Record Check (CRC) with the Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry (CAR) on file at the school. The office can provide a letter to include with your CRC application that will reduce the cost. CARs can be done at no cost. They need to be mailed in and take about three weeks to come back. See here for the CAR application.  Please contact the office for more information. A field trip permission form will be sent home in April.

Have a terrific week.,
