George Bissett Elementary

GBES Weekly Family Forecast (April 4-8, 2022)

Welcome to the first week of April!

Students and staff enjoyed April Fool’s Day! There were a lot of fun and creative pranks pulled off! It is great to be principal of a school with so much fun spirit!

Out of Area Request

The link for Out-of-Area Requests is: https://www.hrce.ca/about-hrce/school-administration/student-registratio...

New for 2022:

Parents/guardians may now seek placement for their child attending the Pre-Primary Program in a school outside the neighborhood in which they reside under the guidelines of the Student Registration Policy.

This change is effective for the 2022-23 school year. Requests can only be made electronically. Attached you will find a document outlining this process.

Fire Drill

Our first Fire Drill of the Spring this week. This would be a good time to review why we practice these drills and discuss emergency evacuation plans at home.

Parent-Teacher

There are no classes on Thursday. Staff will be participating in pd in the morning and Parent-Teacher during the afternoon/evening.

Parent-Teacher Interviews take place on Thursday, April 7th from 1-3 and 5-7pm. We are excited to be able to welcome families back into our school. Families have the option of choosing an in-person appointment or a virtual appointment (phone call). Appointments can be made by using the same online appointment booking system as in Term 1. You will need to create an account in order to book an appointment time to chat with your child’s teacher(s). Follow the link http://www.parentinterviews.com/gbe or go to the George Bissett homepage and click on the Parent-Teacher Interview widget to create an account and book an appointment time. The link will be live by Monday, March 28.  Contact Mrs. Betts in the office if you need assistance booking an appointment.  We also encourage you to book an appointment to meet with specialist teachers (Learning Centre, Resource, Music, Physical Education, and French).

If you are attending Parent-Teacher in-person, we encourage you to check out the “Lost and Found.” We will be setting up a lost and found area with student belongings that we have accumulated over the past several months.

With Spring upon us, the school grounds are quite muddy. Please send in a change of clothes in case your child has an accident outside. Students are also reminded to bring in a water bottle each day.

Don’t forget to contact Mrs. Betts in the office if you are able to volunteer to chaperone our May 12th field trip to watch a performance of “The Lion King” at Prince Andrew High.

Subway lunch takes place tomorrow and Little Caesar’s on Wednesday.

Have a terrific week,

Jimmy Hurley

Principal
George Bissett
